This is Episode 1 featuring Michael Sayles, a British painter born in Birmingham and currently based in Berlin. Sayles employs common canvases as a starting point, experimenting with pencil, paper, and glue to create intricate structures and add three-dimensionality to the flat canvas. His work is a fusion of African iconography, colonialism, and Central African influences. During the episode, Michael will discuss the art book “The Last Supper” published by Phaidon, and showcase the creation process of his remarkable large-scale painting “Hic Niger Est.”
